Chase
Every day I get to meet amazing people because of St. Baldrick's (my day job). My last weekend in July was spent in Chicago meeting the Ewoldt family. Chase is one of four children of Bob and Ellie and was diagnosed with a rare cancer when he was two years old. His expected survival rate was low (around 20%) and required a chemo and radiation treatment plan that lasted almost 14 months. Two colleagues and I spent a weekend meeting this remarkable child and family who have been through a journey of tears, complications, and hope. St. Baldrick's is producing a video that tells Chase's story through the eyes of Bob, Ellie, and Dr. Lulla, the physician in charge of his treatment. The entire family (which now includes Dr. Lulla) has left an indelible mark on me that inspires optimism in the face of pessimistic odds.
My wife has been growing out her hair for over a year and plans to donate it to Locks of Love. She's also putting a price on the hair. Her goal is to raise $500 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Her fundraising page can be found at https://www.stbaldricks.org/fundraisers/mypage/617/2015.
